LOCAL TOP

This garment was designed to capture the flavours of an area I was living in at the time. The sari silk and ethnic style represents the Indian and Pakistan community of Hyson Green in Nottingham. The surface detail was inspired by the Alboretum, a park filled with trees and wildlife at the end of my road. Hand embroidery and is a technique deeply rooted in the traditions of India, Pakistan and Nottingham.

I worked in collaboration with a local dressmaker to produce the final garment. Making this piece made me explore my community and familiarize me with the skills and supplies it had to offer.

“The local agenda is concerned with products that enhance diversity, celebrate traditions, build communities, create meaningful employment and respect

local environmental conditions- it is a combination of product, skill and emotional investment.”
